Maps & Graphs

In this section we aim to provide you with some handy tips for creating your own map to aid your adjudicator.

A good town or village map and legend is essential to your SuperValu TidyTowns Entry Form. We highly recommend reading the TidyTowns handbook as well as viewing our recent webinar on entering the competition

Issue 05/2020 of our newsletter also contains a very informative guide.

How will drawing a map benefit my TidyTowns group?

When planning your map, the first thing to consider is how it will benefit your group. A good quality map helps members see the overall picture of what projects they are involved in. It can aid planning, highlighting new projects, maintenance of work already carried out and future projects that may be part of your groups 3-5 year plan, if you have one.

Can I submit a hand drawn map?

Yes! A hand drawn map is perfectly acceptable – but only if the map is legible.

What size map is appropriate?

The map should be of a manageable size, A4 or A3 and should be submitted as part of your application form or as a separate attachment to your entry email.

Should I include a map legend?

Yes, absolutely! On the map, please name all streets and roads and mark the key public buildings and landmarks.  All new projects should be keyed to the town or village map e.g. N and projects that have been maintained should be keyed with the letter M. Do ensure that each project is given the same number on your entry form as your map.

Tip: Please remember that your Adjudicator may not have adjudicated your town or village before so you should not assume they have ever been in your town/village! Absolute clarity is of key importance. See below some examples of good quality maps, kindly provided by some of our TidyTowns groups. These are a mixture of good hand drawn maps as well as digitally produced maps. They are intended to be a guide to aid you with your own map.
