Launch of new national anti-litter advertising campaign by Minister Hogan

Mr. Phil Hogan, T.D., Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government, has launched a new national anti-litter advertising campaign.

€500,000 worth of advertising space will be used to highlight the damaging effects that fly tipping and small scale illegal dumping have on our environment, society and economy.

In support of this campaign, a provision of €750,000 for local authorities under a new 'Litter Enforcement Grant Scheme' has been provided. It will be used to help local authorities to report individuals engaging in an anti-social behaviour.

Also, the Minister took the opportunity to announce the publication of the 2011 National Litter Pollution Monitoring System Report, providing important and encouraging statistical data about surveyed areas cleanliness.

The campaign has been developed by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government, in conjunction with the local authorities, the EPA and Fáilte Ireland.
