National Heritage Week 2012: August

Online registration for National Heritage Week 2012, which takes place from 18th to 26th of August, is now open.

The nine day event provides a great opportunity for families, friends and communities across the country to experience and learn more about Ireland's heritage.

Communities nationwide are encouraged by the Heritage Council to get involved and last year, a record number of events (1,500) took place all over the country.

National Heritage Week aims to promote Ireland's wonderful built heritage, the diversity and quality of our history and culture through a series of events that encourage people to protect its conservation and preservation.

Everybody can get involved in this community participation, engagement and fun week by organising your own event, attending events or volunteering with local groups in your area.

National Heritage Week is something for all the family to enjoy and the Heritage Council will also offer concession rates during the week itself.

The events will range from medieval fairs, night-time bat walks, lectures, classical and traditional music sessions, poetry recitals, storytelling, and local history walks and talks.
