Volunteer Ireland, the national volunteering organisation for Ireland, is encouraging people to give volunteering a try this week as part of National Volunteering Week.
Following five successful years of Volunteer Ireland’s National Day of Volunteering, this year will see a full week dedicated to promoting the positive experience of volunteerism.
Taking place between May 14th and May 20th, this year’s flagship project is the clean-up of the National Inland Waterways. Ireland’s Inland Waterways are a precious natural resource and with the help of Waterways Ireland and the Inland Waterways Association of Ireland, volunteers will be tackling litter and canal clean-up projects all over Ireland, restoring the natural beauty of the waterways and highlighting the importance of keeping them clean!
Volunteers are people from all walks of life, all ages and stages with one common desire; to make a difference in their community. Involved in all aspects of society including health, education, social services, youth, sports and recreation, culture, the arts and the environment, volunteers give of their time from just an hour to whole days, from one-off events to ongoing activities.
Volunteers play a vital role in Irish society and, across Ireland, are engaged in delivering services and programmes that improve and enhance the life of communities.
