09.03.12 - Irish Seed Savers - Celebration of Seeds

Workshops and demonstrations, vegetable plants, heritage seeds, fruit trees, garden supplies and information stalls are all on the agenda at the 'Seed Savers - Celebration of Seeds' event on Saturday, March 31st and Sunday April 1st.

 

Tickets are €5 for this event, which takes place at the West County Hotel in Ennis.

 

11 am–12 pm
 Why Save Seeds? 
Speaker: Jo Newton, ISSA Seed Bank Curator

• The Outdoor Living Classroom' Biodiversity and Growing Food

• A panel discussion with experts from SEED aimed at teachers and parents

 

12 pm – 1pm

• Hands-on demonstration on sowing seeds and transplanting seedlings – ISSA staff
• Seed Variety Trials in Ireland – Madeline McKeever, Brown Envelope Seeds

 

1 pm – 2 pm: Lunch

 

2 pm – 3 pm

• Seed Sowing and Saving for Beginners
Speaker: Frank Bouchier, former ISSA Head Gardener

• Seed Guardian Networks in the UK
Speaker: Neil Munro, Heritage Seed Library, UK

 

3 pm – 4 pm
• Irish Potatoes – History, Lore and How to Grow

11 am–4 pm: Seedy Sunday - Entrance is Free

• Seed and Plant Swap: Attendees can bring seeds and plants that they wish to swap or give away
