Community Improvement Bursaries Awarded

Bonmahon Playground Group in Co Waterford has won SuperValu’s €30,000 Community Improvement Bursary for their proposal to build a multi purpose sports court in the village.

 

The criteria was to submit a proposal for a project that would show true community spirit, benefit the community for future generations and give local communities a chance to showcase the best their area has to offer.

 

Bonmahon Playground Group’s winning idea -  to erect a multi purpose sports court -  was picked out from thousands of entries and was one of six shortlisted for a public vote. Thanks to the thousands of votes from the people of the South East, Bonmahon Playground Group has been declared the winner.

 

Bonmahon Playground Group - Winners of SuperValu Community BursaryThe multi purpose court will be a huge addition to the local community, providing a tennis court, basketball court and soccer training nets. Bonmahon Playground Group, which was formed in 2006 in a bid to bring positive changes to Bonmahon village, has previously been successful in building a state of the art playground for the area.

 

In a surprise announcement, SuperValu and The Irish Sun also informed the five runners-up for the Community Improvement Bursary that they will each be awarded €2,000 for their projects which are:

 

Bundoran Tidy Towns will be awarded €2,000 for their proposal to build a ‘Sensory Garden’ in Bundoran.


Bud's Family and Community Resource Centre in Ballyduff, Co Kerry will be awarded €2,000 from SuperValu for their project to build an outdoor activity space

Ballinasloe Town Hall Theatre in Co Galway will be awarded €2,000 from SuperValu for their project to upgrade and revamp the theatre


Erris No-Name Club in Belmullet will be awarded €2,000 from SuperValu for their project to build a multi purpose games area.


Jobstown Community Development Project will be awarded €2,000 from SuperValu for their project to build an indoor children’s play area for the local community

This multi purpose sports court will be a tremendous success and a huge asset to our local community.”
