16.02.10 - RTE Help For TidyTowns

RTE has contacted the TidyTowns Unit about a new gardening series to be screened in the autumn. The new series will see Diarmuid Gavin, RTE’s garden designer, getting involved in public works, gardens or public spaces that can be accessed by the public.

The idea is to find a small town or large village with a very active TidyTowns committee/local  community. The community might need a small park, or a seating area or simply to landscape another public area.

Diarmuid Gavin will talk to the TidyTowns committee about your needs and wants, your schedule and your ambition - then he will plan a garden for the community free of charge. The community then need to pull together to make it happen.

If the community has a specific need for park benches, lighting or even planting, you will, of course, need a budget. It will be necessary for the community to raise these funds. RTE will film the transformation and hopefully the community will have the project ready for when the TidyTowns adjudicator comes to town later in the year.

The town or village selected needs to be located within 90 minutes of Cork City, Waterford City  or Dublin City. In addition you must have the support of your Local Authority for the project.

If you are interested in being considered for this series, please e mail details of your project  together with confirmation of the involvement of your Local Authority to tidytowns@environ.ie by
