2013 marks the 22nd year of SuperValu's sponsorship of the national TidyTowns competition.
This is one of the longest running sponsorships of its kind in Ireland and one that we are incredibly proud of. TidyTowns is a perfect partnership for SuperValu, as we are both embedded in communities across Ireland and our retailers, similar to TidyTowns committees form part of the fabric of towns and villages across Ireland.
Once again we are delighted to be working closely with the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government to ensure that this important competition goes from strength to strength and gathers the momentum it deserves.
With 195 stores nationwide, our retailers are uniquely positioned to build relationships within local communities. We recognise the power of local community and the value it brings to our country.
Our SuperValu retailers have served the people of Ireland for well over 30 years and like the many TidyTowns committees right across the country, we are confident they are recognised as established and trusted patrons of good work in the communities in which they live and work.
Our stores serve not just as shops but as places where neighbours can meet, talk and exchange news and this is a great source of pride for us. We live in challenging times, economically and socially, but the SuperValu TidyTowns competition demonstrates time and again, the total commitment and dedication of people up and down the country to building vibrant communities and helping make theirs a better place to live.
We pride ourselves on this partnership and this year we are encouraging people all over Ireland to "Help their community shine" through getting involved in this year's competition.
SuperValu will be supporting local TidyTowns committees even further this year, by making our stores available for information days to sign up new members and making kits available to committees that need some additional material.
In addition, we will celebrate the hard work and dedication of committee members through recognising individual SuperValu TidyTowns Heroes at the National Awards Ceremony later in the year.
